莎莉（雪莉·亨德森 Shirley Henderson 饰）曾以为吉米（罗伯特·卡莱尔 Robert Carlyle 饰）是自己的真命天子，哪知道确是命中一劫。在莎莉怀着吉米孩子的情况下，浪荡不羁的吉米选择了消失不见，坚强的莎莉独自剩下了吉米的女儿，给这个无辜的孩子取名为美莲（菲恩·阿特金斯 Finn Atkins 饰）。 一晃眼多年过去，莎莉幸运的遇见了名为达德（瑞斯·伊凡斯 Rhys Ifans 饰）的男人，三人组成了一个临时的家庭。虽然达德非常的爱莎莉，但是在他的内心里，始终充斥着强烈的不安全感。于是，达德决定通过电视直播的方式向莎莉求婚，哪知道吉米竟然好巧不巧的看到了这一幕。对莎莉的爱在吉米的心中死灰复燃，他决定回到莎莉的身边，和这个名叫达德的男人一较高下。
Originally from the Midlands, Jimmy is currently living in Glasgow eking out a living as a hapless petty crook. One day, he sees his old family and friends - including his older foster sister Carol, her boyfriend/his old buddy Charlie, Jimmy's ex-wife and Carol's best friend Shirley, and Jimmy's pre-teen daughter Marlene - on a television talk show, they baring their souls to a national audience. He has not seen any of them in years. Of note on the show, Shirley rejects the marriage proposal of her slightly awkward live-in boyfriend Dek. Jimmy sees her answer to Dek as a reason to head back to the Midlands to reunite with his past, especially with Shirley and Marlene. Dek, already humiliated, is less than thrilled to see Jimmy back in their lives. In the ensuing duel between Jimmy and Dek for Shirley and Marlene's affections, others get caught up in the crossfire. 以前的混蛋丈夫又找上门了，现在有个傻小子正在追求女主，女主却又被以前的浪荡男人所吸引。最终，傻小子提起勇气教训了混蛋丈夫一顿，追回了真爱。音乐好听。
