Many of these authors were virtually unknown to modern audiences, although all of the detectives portrayed had appeared in popular ongoing series of short stories or novels. "Rivals" featured the only dramatizations to date of such period characters as Jacques Futrelle's "The Thinking Machine" and W. H. Hodgson's "Carnacki The Ghost Finder". Production values were high, although the limitations of early '70's video technology are painfully obvious. 泰晤士的片头太熟悉了，小时候正大剧场应该进了他们不少片子。菠萝出了第一季的13集。竟然有不止一个侦探骗钱、勒索、使旁门左道，真是颠覆三观。帽子女疑云里警察管甜品店老板娘叫Frau，我都震惊了，地道的德语词怎么会出现在英剧里？原来是因为老板娘做的是维也纳甜点。角色名也确实是德国姓氏Löwenthal，很严谨了。威尔特公爵夫人的那集看得目瞪口呆！
