《探长薇拉》里的案件很贴近生活，没有惊人的转折和曲折的剧情。破案过程更像是揭开人们隐藏着的，不愿告诉他人，甚至已经开始自我欺骗的事实。案子里充满那种羞耻，顾左右而言他的回避。受到案件影响的人们，不会在一开始就讲出真话。出轨的人会隐瞒自己正在外遇，与当事人发生冲突的人，会弱化曾经的怨恨。而这些隐情，总是与真相息息相关。探长的工作不是智力游戏，而是与人打交道的工作，是洞察人心的工作。英剧和美剧确实挺不一样的。
